Gentri Brothers band bio
The Gentri Brothers is a four-piece funk-pop band consisting of three brothers (Luke, Austin, and Sean), and their bassist Zus. The Gentris have been playing music as far back as they can remember… thanks to their Dad (who's been shredding for decades and was formerly part of Guitar Magazine) and their Mom (who joins in on bongos during campfire jams, and who is a constant source of positivity, support, and inspiration), they were slapping guitars and drums and pianos before they could even walk. After the family moved from Connecticut to North Carolina in 2004, the boys honed their focus, and solidified what they already knew: It's jam time. They're all close in age, and throughout their formative years, they played upstairs in their makeshift jam space. No matter what else was happening in their lives, they always had fun making music together, supported by parents who understood the importance of a musical upbringing.
Things got serious for the band of brothers when they met their bassist, Zus, who was based out of the mountains of Boone. There was an instant chemistry in all of their playing, and late-night mountain jam parties would go well into the next morning. For a couple of years, they practiced, wrote songs, and played whatever shows they could find—from basement parties in college rentals to outdoor gatherings in the stunning Appalachian mountainside.
When the pandemic started and stay-at-home orders begin in 2020, the Gentris suddenly had more time than ever to work on their music. With the help of music producer / engineer Kevin McNoldy (Dave Matthews, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Howie D / Backstreet Boys, and thousands more), whose own production studio was just a few miles away, the boys put together a home studio in their practice space to serve as the recording location for their first album.
Written and recorded by The Gentri Brothers and mixed and mastered by Kevin McNoldy, this impressive debut showcases all of the funk-pop influences that the boys were raised on. Thanks to an eclectic taste in music between all of them, there are hints of The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Frank Zappa, and even a dash of David Bowie in there. Additional influences include The Aristocrats, Dire Straits, Deep Purple, Zeppelin, Shawn Lane, Heatwave, Porcupine Tree, The Talking Heads, and too many more to count! Most importantly, it's all fun… sometimes deep, sometimes corny, but always danceable and chest-pounding. Since there are three brothers in the band, they've been compared to Hanson… but as their fans like to say, the Gentri Brothers "are like Hanson if they dropped acid and played an all-night set of funk-pop rock until the crack of dawn."
